Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty, also sometimes referred to as vaginal rejuvenation, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that reshapes the labia to address discomfort and self-consciousness associated with excess labial tissue. Having loose tissue in the area can lead to a number of concerns for many women, including pain or discomfort while exercising, during sexual intercourse, or even simply walking. Excess labial tissue can also lead to an increased vulnerability to yeast infections and torn tissue from friction, not to mention a noticeable effect on one’s appearance.

Understanding that this is an extremely personal concern, our plastic surgeons take great care to make you feel comfortable throughout the entire treatment process. Whether excess labial tissue has been a lifelong concern, or if the condition is the result of physical changes following childbearing or menopause, our experienced surgical team can correct the problem and help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

The Labiaplasty Procedure

The surgery is performed under a general or local anesthetic to help patients feel comfortable throughout the procedure and avoid excessive discomfort. Incisions are made in concealed areas and typically stitched with absorbable sutures that gradually dissolve as you heal. Depending on your needs, our surgeon can address one or more of the following concerns:

Labia Minora

A typical labiaplasty procedure entails the removal of excess or loose labia minora tissue (inner lips of the external female genitalia). This tissue is reduced to both improve the vaginal appearance as well as relieve any discomfort that results from the enlarged tissue.

Labia Majora

For patients concerned with the size and/or shape of the labia majora (outer lips), your surgeon can correct this area to help you feel more comfortable and achieve a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Clitoral Hood Reduction

In addition to treating the labia minora and/or majora, patients can opt for the removal of excess skin over the clitoris. While this is not typically involved in a labiaplasty, you can discuss your concerns with one of our surgeons to determine if you are a good candidate.

Should you be interested in additional contouring of the upper pubic area, inner thighs, or buttocks, liposuction can be performed during the same procedure. If you are seeking a labiaplasty following childbirth, you may also be interested in making the procedure part of a combination mommy makeover for a more comprehensive transformation.

Labiaplasty Recovery

In the first few days following your labiaplasty, it is normal to experience bruising and swelling. For any discomfort you are feeling, oral medication can be taken for improved comfort. Our surgeons recommend patients take a few days off work to limit mobility during the beginning of the healing process. You should avoid strenuous activity and intercourse for four to six weeks. It can take anywhere from six months to a full year to see the final results of the procedure.

Labiaplasty Cost

While the cost of labiaplasty will vary for each individual, the procedure is typically $6,500 or more depending on the details of a patient’s surgical plan.
