Whether through bariatric surgery or traditional diet and exercise, weight loss is a significant achievement that can lead to better health and improved confidence. However, certain side effects may present themselves as a result. Since the skin had been stretched, it may not be able to fully retract, leaving loose, hanging skin around your body. While this can be very disconcerting, especially after having done the hard work of losing the weight, The Ottawa Clinic offers post-weight loss body contouring options to help you firm up your physique with beautiful results.
When you meet with one of our experienced plastic surgeons, he will help you understand how specific body contouring procedures can help you reach your aesthetic goals. If you would like to learn more about our post-weight loss options, please contact us today.
Lower Body Lift
The lower body lift is a comprehensive combination of procedures that addresses such areas as the abdomen, buttocks, hips, and thighs. The surgery can create a more toned midsection by recontouring the entire area and smoothing out the skin. To begin the procedure, our plastic surgeon will make a circumferential incision to remove excess skin and fat. While the procedural details vary from patient to patient, our surgeons strive to make incisions in places where residual scarring can be easily hidden in the future. The remaining skin will then be tightened, making it appear more toned and helping you achieve the shape you desire.
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is useful for those who notice loose, excess skin between the elbow and underarm (axilla). This is a very common condition, often due to weight loss or the natural aging process. During the arm lift procedure, an incision is made within the axilla (for limited procedures) or along the inside of the arm from the elbow to the axilla. Your plastic surgeon removes the excess skin and re-drapes the remaining skin to tighten and smooth the contour of the upper arm. Scars from the surgery are usually well concealed along the inside of the arm and are not typically visible with the arms at rest beside the body. For a more thorough re-sculpting, patients can choose to combine the arm lift procedure with liposuction.
A thigh lift is designed to address sagging skin and fat along the inner or outer thighs. While many people can achieve favorable results with liposuction alone, others may require a more in-depth procedure to surgically remove the excess tissue. In the thigh lift procedure, incisions are placed in areas that can be concealed under your undergarments. The extent and exact location of the incisions depend in large part on the amount of tissue being removed. Overall, the goal of thigh lift surgery is to recontour the upper thigh skin to achieve a more pleasing shape and tone. This procedure is often done in combination with a buttock lift.
